Ernesto Calderin Wins First Hoosier Cross

October 18th, 2007

Ernesto Calderin stomped the competition in the first Wednesday Night Hoosier Cross race, laying down the gauntlet for what is sure to be an exciting fall and winter series. Donning a bargain basement Zipp Team Kit and bandages, Ernie mocked the competition, rolling to victory on 2.5 inch tires. With a late season marred by Tom Danielson like illnesses and mishaps, the fast Asian dude brought his A game for the series opener. “I took two days off in order to be well rested for this event. What can I say, I just had great legs today.”

Jason Fowler captured second place aided by the mechanical misfortunes of Jason “Mr. Flashpoint” Smith. Fowler’s bike seemed to have an allergic reaction to the non-paved sections of the course, thoroughly confusing the pre-race favorite and his Scott machine.

Jesse Garcia, super domestique for team MVG, rounded out the podium. Charlie Crouse road in style to fourth while Mark Van Gemert captured a hard earned 5th. While Van Gemert couldn’t be reached for comment, his race seemed to be highlighted by the 25 ft. rooster tails through the litter box section of the course.

Master course designer Andy Paskins held on for 6th place, adding another top 10 to his impressive resume. “I proved tonight that I’ve been successful in achieving my season goals….I was really concerned about going into winter with too much fitness. It’s very apparent that I have been able to get rid of that excess baggage.”
