Hoosier Cross Course Map - By Jason Fowler

Turkey Cross II

Hey Everyone,

We had a great turn out last week with Zach from Marion College destroying the competition. The race was off to a fast start with Jason Fowler edging on Jason Smith for the hole shot. Then at the start of the second lap Zach rode off the front and was able to hang on to the lead for the remaining laps. There was an exciting race for second, Joe Kukolla was in second most of the race and was barely beat by the tread of Ernesto Calderin’s tubies after the all out sprint (we might set up a camcorder next race for official results).

We’re having a special edition Turkey Cross race on Friday leaving from Hinkle Fieldhouse at 2pm. Then we’ll follow with the standard Hoosier Cross race on Saturday morning at 10am. We’ll have prizes for both races.

Happy Holidays!

High Caliber Riders Attend Hoosier Cross

Ladies and gentlemen,

Saturday’s Hoosier Cross was a huge success and everyone seemed to like the new course. Special thanks to Jeff Leibovitz for standing out in the cold and snapping some great photos! Thanks Jeff! Photos can be checked out at: http://flickr.com/photos/teamleibo

We had at total of 16 racers. Everyone was after the high dollar Zipp prizes. We had special appearances from Adam Leibovitz (Junior National TT Champ), Declan Doyle (Irish Junior National Champion and 2008 Cat 1 State Road Race Champ), well respected local racer Aaron Hubbell and Jason “Hammerschmidt” Smith (3 hour 5 minute marathon with two stops :o)).

The race was off to a fast start with Adam Leibowitz taking the hole shot followed by Jason Smith, Jason Fowler, Brian Gavette then Ernesto Calderin.

The five racers separated themselves from the rest of the group early on, with Jason Smith attacking for first place later on the first lap. Brian Gavette was in second until he had a mechanical and needed assistance from neutral race support and then was passed by Ernesto Calderin, Adam Leibowitz and Jason Fowler.

Jason Smith was able to hang on for the win almost giving it up the by snoozing towards the finish and was almost caught by second place rider Ernesto Calderin at the line.

Podium results/prize winners:

1st Jason Smith

2nd Ernesto Calderin

3rd Adam Leibowitz

Hoosier Cross will continue this Saturday, we’ll roll out from the Hinkle parking lot at 10pm. Grand Prize this week is a Zipp Contour Bar 31.8 44cm o-o (used) and there will also be prizes for second and third place. There will be a slight course change which will include more grass riding. We’re expecting around 20-30 racers this weekend with a few guys making the trip up from Bloomington. After the race a few riders will go for a warm down ride around lost lake.

Riders of all levels are welcome, bring your CX or mountain bike.

See you Saturday!

Christmas Cross

55 degrees and rain on Sat. Perfect for Christmas Cross, your favorite skinsuit and baby oil!

How about 10am in the Bulter Hinkle Fieldhouse parking lot?

There will be 2 slow re-con loops. The course will feature some of the "Turkey Cross" trails along with 2 big run ups: hills and stairs. This course will offer a little of everything: technical trails, running, stair climbing, descending skills and top end speed on the pavement. This will not be a closed course. Part of the course crosses over the canal path, please be careful with the walkers/runners. With school being out at Butler, traffic should be to a minimum however be careful as some of the course is on the campus roads.

Look forward to seeing everyone there! Rain or shine!

Hoosier Hiatus

Hoosier Cross will take a brief hiatus as many key riders are out of town or their bikes are down for repairs. Additionally, the course has suffered some irreparable damage, as some of Ravenswood’s finest have used the cross course for their off-road adventures.

Stay tuned....
